The Jungfraujoch is the highest railway station in Europe at 3,454 meters (11,332 ft). It provides year-round access to an alpine wonderland of snow and ice, the Aletsch Glacier (the longest glacier in the Alps), the Sphinx viewing terrace, and the Ice Palace carved into the glacier. It is an unforgettable experience on clear days.
Interlaken has two railway stations (Interlaken Ost and Interlaken West). Direct or one-transfer trains run from Zurich Main Station and Zurich Airport in about 2 hours via Bern. From Geneva, trains take about 2 hours and 45 minutes.
Summer (mid-June to September) is ideal for hiking, wildflowers, cable car excursions, and lake cruises with temperatures around 18°C–24°C in the valleys. Winter (December to March) transforms Grindelwald, Mürren, and Wengen into world-class ski and winter sledding paradises.
Opened in 2020, the Eiger Express is a state-of-the-art tricable gondola that transports passengers from Grindelwald Terminal to Eigergletscher station in just 15 minutes, shaving 47 minutes off the classic journey to the Jungfraujoch.
Even in the peak of July and August, temperatures at Jungfraujoch remain below freezing (typically -2°C to 2°C). Visitors must bring warm layered clothing (jacket, fleece, warm trousers), sturdy footwear with good grip on ice, UV-blocking sunglasses, and sunscreen.
